China’s Hainan boosts its international trade in services by 11.7% in nine months

The province’s services exports increased to around $6.02 billion in the reporting period

HAIKOU /China/, October 29. /TASS/. China’s southern island province of Hainan increased its international trade in services by 11.7% year-on-year to 56.95 billion yuan ($8.48 billion) in January-September 2026, the region’s Department of Commerce said.

According to the department’s WeChat page, the province’s services exports increased by 14.9% to 40.41 billion yuan (around $6.02 billion) in the reporting period, while imports reached 16.54 billion yuan ($2.46 billion), up 4.7%.

The department said that the cross-border maintenance sector (for vessels and aircraft — TASS), inbound tourism and computer game exports demonstrated particularly impressive results over the nine months. Key transport and logistics companies such as COSCO Shipping played an important role in developing Hainan’s freight sector.

The Department of Commerce forecasted that Hainan’s international transport services sector would grow significantly by the end of 2026. The department highlighted the key role of the visa-free regime and air traffic growth, which have brought far more tourists from Russia, Kazakhstan and South Korea to the island.

In addition, the department noted that the quantitative growth in Hainan’s international services trade came with structural optimization, driven by both traditional and new factors. According to the published data, the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong, the United States, Russia, Ireland and Singapore are Hainan’s top five partners in this field. According to estimates, they accounted for more than 57% of total commercial activity in this segment of the island’s economy in the first three quarters of 2026.

The department also stated that the Hainan Free Trade Port would continue to use institutional and other advantages to strengthen the regional transport sector and inbound tourism and to introduce new types of services trade. At the same time, the province’s authorities plan to diversify the entry of local companies into foreign markets and ensure the high quality of their economic interaction with partners from other countries and regions.
