Russia will give asymmetric response to sanctions — President Putin

According to the Russian leader, the Russian economy adapted to the sanctions pressure of the West, and the sanctions even contributed to the development of a number of industries

MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. Russia will respond asymmetrically to sanctions, without compromising its own interests, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during the annual Direct Line on Wednesday.

"We do not intend and will not take retaliatory steps that will harm our own interests. For example, Americans still fly into space on our engines. Our rocket engines are still widely used to make American spaceships go into space. We've been supplying them for decades. Should we close off the titanium production solely for ourselves? If they cross any boundaries, we find asymmetric ways to answer that are quite sensitive for our partners," President Putin said.

Putin expressed the hope that the attitude of the United States not only towards Russia, but also towards other partners will change. "By the way, their traditional partners and allies, do you think they are glad that they are talking to them like their feelings are hurt? Nobody likes that," he added.

The President said that the Russian economy adapted to the sanctions pressure of the West, and the sanctions even contributed to the development of a number of industries: "These so-called replacement programs, import substitution, replacement of imported equipment, technologies with our own created a good impetus in the development of high-tech industries has benefited production. I won't even mention agriculture, which has made such a leap that we could not even imagine in previous years".

According to him, the financial restrictions imposed by the West have led to the fact that the debt of the state and the Russian commercial sector has decreased. "There are other positive things: the Mir payment system and, in general, the entire strengthening of the financial system.
