US sanctions against Iran will backfire on US economy, Iranian parliament speaker warns

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf illustrated the boomerang effect by several photos showing that economic pressure on Iran and disruptions in energy markets would ultimately have consequences for the United States

RABAT, August 23. /TASS/. Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned the United States that its new economic warfare against Iran will fire back on its economy.

On his X page, he illustrated the boomerang effect by several photos showing that economic pressure on Iran and disruptions in energy markets would ultimately have consequences for the United States.

"Importing frozen meat to fix meat prices. Okay, that might work. What’s the plan for bonds, import frozen yields? Frozen homebuyers for housing? Frozen paychecks for wages? A frozen foreign policy delivers a frozen economy," he wrote.

"The only thing still moving? The Iran boomerang," he added.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the launch of "economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale" against Iran. The US leader also warned that countries whose financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government agencies support Tehran will face serious economic consequences from Washington.

Following this move, the Iranian foreign ministry slammed the United States’ economic policy toward Iran as "economic terrorism and a crime against humanity." "The US administration, those who developed sanctions plans and those who are implementing them must be appropriately punished," it said.
