MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. The majority of Ukrainian MPs involved in drafting the law on mobilization do not have access to military secrets and make decisions without having all the facts, Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) MP Andrey Osadchuk has said.
He noted that 90% of officials in Ukraine remain in the dark about key military issues that would help them draft a proper mobilization law. "In particular, in terms of the part that directly concerns the formation of units, shortages, military losses, budget, military plans and other things. <...> It (the issue of mobilization - TASS) should be directly tied to what is happening with the troops, taking into account their needs and plans. Our lawmakers are in the dark here, but they will somehow consider and pass the bill. In order to make a decision on this important issue, you need to have reliable information about what, how and where things are happening," the Ukrainian Focus weekly quoted Osadchuk as saying.
The Ukrainian government is currently preparing a draft law on new rules for mobilization. Its first version suggested that the authorities should be allowed to mobilize even people with Group III disabilities, send out electronic summonses and limit the rights of draft dodgers, including those who leave the country. After that, the mass media circulated footage of Ukrainians in different countries lining up in huge queues at consulates to re-issue their documents before the new rules were adopted. However, lawmakers could not agree on the bill and it was sent for revision. A new version is expected to arrive in parliament in the near future.
