MOSCOW, December 9. /TASS/. Russia’s main New Year’s fir will be cut down in the Moscow Region on Monday to be delivered to the Moscow Kremlin two days later.
The tree was chosen from dozens of "candidates." It is 90 years old, 25 meters tall and it grows near the settlement of Znamenka, near Mozhaysk, to the west of Moscow.
A special truck is expected to take Russia’s main New Year’s tree to the Kremlin on the midnight of December 11.
A live spruce on the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square has been a tradition since 1996. Because of severe frosts which hampered efforts to cut down and transport a live tree in 2001-2005, artificial New Year’s trees were installed there instead.
