MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. The council of chief designers met in session at the Energia rocket and space corporation (part of Roscosmos) on Monday, to recommend extending the life cycle of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) until 2028.
"This is the first step in drafting a corresponding decision of the Russian government," Roscosmos said in a news release on Monday.
The proposed decision will now be considered at a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos. Based on its results, the state corporation will draft a message the Russian government.
Taking part in the chief designers’ meeting were the top management of Roscosmos, subdivisions of the RSC Energia and subcontractor organizations and enterprises involved in the ISS project. Reports on the results of the flight and the current technical condition of the Russian segment of the ISS were made," Roscosmos said.
Last November, Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov told TASS in an interview that further participation in the ISS project would depend on the technical condition of the Russian segment, the deployment of the Russian orbital station, the beginning of flights to it by Russian crews, and a number of other factors.
Deputy Prime Minister, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov at the end of October 2022 told the media that Russia considered it possible to extend the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS until 2028, when the minimum configuration of Russia’s own orbital outpost is place.
