Colombian mercenary fighting in Russia’s Kursk Region detained

The investigation has revealed that Boorjes took part in the armed conflict for a financial reward as part of Ukrainian forces

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. A mercenary originally from Colombia charged of a terrorist attack and mercenary activities has been detained, Investigative Committee Spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told TASS.

"At the request of an investigator from the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee, Pablo Puentes Boorjes, a mercenary from the Republic of Colombia, has been taken into custody," she said.

According to the spokeswoman, the Colombian citizen is suspected of committing a terrorist act and being involved in mercenary activities. The investigation has revealed that Boorjes took part in the armed conflict for a financial reward as part of Ukrainian forces. "Equipped with automatic small arms and explosive devices, Boorjes illegally crossed the Russian state border and infiltrated the Kursk Region in December 2024. With the intent to intimidate the population, inflict significant property damage, and destabilize the government agencies, he committed crimes against the civilian population," she said.

According to Petrenko, Russian servicemen captured Boorjes during the fighting near the settlement of Aleksandriya in the Kursk Region’s Sudzha district.
