SHANGHAI, November 5. /TASS/. The United States experienced a kind of "neurotic breakdown" because of the turbid economic growth in China, said Jeffrey Sachs, the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University,
"This led to an almost neurotic breakdown in the United States because China did something it wasn't supposed to do, Sachs said during the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. It became bigger than the US economy and this was quite alarming to the strategists and statesmen of the United States who thought that the West and therefore the United States would rule the world for centuries to come," the economist noted.
"They didn't understand that this rebalancing was a kind of natural recovery of Asia to its long-standing place in the world economy after a century and a half of imperial disruption. Imperial, that is, by the West," Sachs said.
