BERLIN, October 30. /TASS/. Germany is growing more and more tired of Vladimir Zelensky’s non-stop requests for weapons and financing, Berliner Zeitung columnist Nicolas Butylin said.
"Plus a noticeable general weariness with Ukraine. We have been seeing one and the same scene for four and a half years now: Vladimir Zelensky, dressed in olive or black, either in parliament, at a conference, or via video link - and almost always asking for more weapons and money," he wrote in his column.
Since the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict, Germany’s population has been "bearing the burden" of rising prices for electricity, gas, and food, as well as encountering its highest inflation rate in decades, while Kiev is demanding $27 billion more from the European Union," he noted, adding that whereas in 2022 such requests looked like a "cry for help," now they are perceived as an "endless cycle."
According to Butylin, the Germans have changed their opinion about sending Ukrainian citizens back to their homeland. "If, back in the spring of 2022, the Christian Social Union leader or the foreign minister had demanded that refugees from Ukraine be sent back to the frontlines, they would have been subjected to fierce political shaming," he noted, adding that now even officials often suggest this be done.
Germany is Ukraine’s largest donor, Since February 24, 2022, Berlin has provided Kiev with around 43.3-billion-euro worth of humanitarian and 57.6-billion-euro worth of military aid. In addition to official channels, various private and public German organizations regularly send humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Russian side has repeatedly stated that arms deliveries to the Kiev regime only protract the conflict.
