French army test-fires new nuclear-capable missile — news agency

The agency noted that French President Emmanuel Macron observed the test firing

PARIS, October 6. /TASS/. The French Armed Forces have test-fired a new nuclear missile, the AFP news agency reported.

The missile without a warhead was launched from a submarine, it said, citing the Elysee Palace and the Ministry of Defense.

The agency noted that French President Emmanuel Macron observed the test firing from aboard a French Navy frigate.

According to AFP, the missile, the third version of the M51 strategic sea-launched ballistic missile, which entered service a year ago, did not carry a nuclear warhead and landed "in the North Atlantic, hundreds of kilometers from any coastline," the ministry specified.
