Russia welcomes US efforts to depoliticize G20 discussions — Lavrov

The foreign minister noted that Moscow supports the US determination to focus on the issues initially agreed on for the G20 agenda

ATLANTA /United States/, October 30. /TASS/. Moscow welcomes the United States’ determination to depoliticize discussion within the G20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"We support the fundamental determination of the US chairmanship to keep discussions depoliticized and focus on the issues initially agreed on for the G20 agenda," he noted at a press conference following the first day of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.

"This year, of course, the focus is on preparation for the Miami summit set for December," Lavrov went on to say. "However, the main emphasis was on how geopolitics impacts economic processes, an important issue that encompasses energy, food and supply chains," he added.

According to Lavrov, "this is what is being affected by the West’s illegal sanctions and policies." "To the credit of the US hosts, they don’t shy away from discussing such things and listen carefully," he stressed. "I don’t know to what extent this will be reflected in the final documents, but the approach of depoliticizing the agenda and focusing on real problems is the right one," the top Russian diplomat concluded.
