Russian MFA describes Israel’s strike on Iranian consulate as absolutely unacceptable

"We urgently call on the Israeli leadership to abandon the practice of provocative military operations in Syria and other neighboring countries," Ministry added

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. The international community needs to legally assess Israel’s strike on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We believe that such aggressive actions by Israel are absolutely unacceptable and must come to an end. We are confident that all responsible members of the international community need to clearly state their position and legally assess these actions," the statement reads.

"We urgently call on the Israeli leadership to abandon the practice of provocative military operations in Syria and other neighboring countries, which are fraught with extremely dangerous consequences for the entire region," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

According to the ministry, the attack completely destroyed the consulate building, leaving several people, including diplomats, dead and injured.

Moscow "strongly condemns the attack on the Iranian consular office in Syria."

"We believe that any infringement on diplomatic and consular missions are totally unacceptable as their immunity is enshrined in the relevant Vienna conventions," the statement says. "We would like to point out that the attack was carried out in a densely populated neighborhood of the capital, which created the risk of numerous civilian deaths," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
