WASHINGTON, August 19. /TASS/. The European Union and the United States will develop "strong security guarantees" for Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after a White House meeting between EU leaders and US President Donald Trump.
"We are here, as allies and friends, for peace in Ukraine and in Europe. This is an important moment, as we continue to work on strong security guarantees for Ukraine and a lasting and durable peace," she wrote on the X social media platform.
Earlier, Trump held a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky and several European leaders. The talks involved French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
