China to aid stability efforts in Middle East — Chinese top diplomat

Wang Yi promised that Beijing would be a "lasting and reliable partner to the Middle Eastern countries," and warned against foreign interference in the region’s affairs

BEIJING, December 13. /TASS/. The Chinese authorities will actively support maintaining stability in the Middle East and view foreign intervention in the region’s affairs as intolerable, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated.

"I hope that all Middle Eastern countries will move past grievances, end the hostilities, truly unite as brothers and sisters, and focus on comprehensive peace and development of the Middle East," he emphasized at a press conference following the meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Aaty in Beijing.

The Chinese foreign minister added that countries in this region must "defend the region as their own home." "In this process, China, as a true friend of the Middle Eastern nations, will continue to safeguard peace and stability, promote development and prosperity, and support unity and sovereignty," he noted.

The Chinese top diplomat clarified that "stability is a foundation for progress, and development is the driving force of stability." He promised that Beijing would be a "lasting and reliable partner to the Middle Eastern countries," and warned against foreign interference in the region’s affairs.

"For a long time, the Middle East has endured exploitation by major powers and has even become a victim of geopolitical conflict. This historical injustice cannot persist," the minister stressed. "The international community must <…> assist the countries of the region, rather than override them in resolving regional disputes and conflicts."
