Russia’s resolution on Nord Stream suggests creating commission of lawyers — source

The proposed document also condemns the fact that a number of concerned parties, including the operator of the pipelines, were not allowed to investigate the explosions

UNITED NATIONS, February 18. /TASS/. Russia’s proposed UN Security Council resolution about investigating blasts that hit Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines last year envisages a special commission of lawyers to be selected by the UN secretary general, a source in the UN told TASS.

The source said that the document describes potential members of the commission as "unbiased, with international recognition and expertise." The commission should also include a required number of experts.

If the resolution is adopted, the UN Secretary General is to make a report to the UN Security Council about concrete modalities of creating the commission within 14 days.

The proposed document also condemns the fact that a number of concerned parties, including the operator of the pipelines, were not allowed to investigate the explosions.

On Friday, Russia put forward a draft UN Security Council resolution about an inquiry into last year’s sabotage of its Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations said on his Telegram channel. It may be put to a vote next week.
