Monaco FC confirms signing up Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow

MOSCOW, July 27. /TASS/. Aleksandr Golovin, a Russian footballer playing as a midfielder for his national team as well for Russia’s CSKA Moscow premier league football club, has signed a five-year contract with Monaco FC, the club’s press service announced on Friday.

"AS Monaco is very pleased to announce the signing of Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow for 5 years, until June 2023," a statement from the club reads.

The sum of the transfer deal has not been disclosed, however, a statement on the official website of CSKA Moscow FC states that it was a record-breaker for the Russian football club.

Commenting on the move from CSKA to Monaco, Golovin said it would be "an adventure" for him.

"I am very happy to sign at AS Monaco," Golovin was quoted as saying on the official website of Monaco FC. "This is a new adventure for me that I approach with a lot of ambitions. I am now very much looking forward to meeting the staff and my new teammates and to get going."

Monaco FC Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Vadim Vasilyev said the club was "happy with the arrival" of the young Russian midfielder.

"We are very happy with the arrival of Aleksandr Golovin at AS Monaco," Vasilyev said. "He is a talented young player, very prominent during the World Cup, but we have been following him for a long time."

"He [Golovin] already has solid experience in Russian first division and internationally. Despite the competition of very large European clubs, Aleksandr has chosen the sporting project of AS Monaco, which will offer him the best conditions to continue his progress," Vasilyev added.

Born in the Siberian town of Kaltan, the 22-year-old Golovin played a total of 113 matches for CSKA Moscow FC, including 23 matches as part of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League and also won the Russian Football Premier League (RFPL) championship in 2016. He debuted in the Russian top division in 2015 at the age of 18.

At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Golovin appeared in four matches for his national side scoring a goal and delivering two assists. In all, Golovin has registered 23 appearances playing for the Russian national squad throughout his career.

This summer Russia hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup, which kicked off in Moscow with a remarkable opening show at Luzhniki Stadium on the evening of June 14 and ended with a spectacular final match, played also at the Luzhniki Stadium, where France confidently defeated Croatia 4-2 to win the much-coveted World Cup Trophy.

The national football team of hosts Russia managed to make it to the quarterfinals stage of this world championship, where Croatia edged them out in a 4-3 penalty shootout win on July 7 at the Fisht Arena in Sochi.
