Kremlin views dialogue between Russian, US intelligence chiefs as useful

MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. The date of a new potential meeting between Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin and CIA chief William Burns is yet unknown, but such communication would be useful, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

"It is true, it (a meeting between Naryshkin and Burns - TASS) cannot be ruled out, and such a dialogue would be useful, indeed. I am not aware of any specific timing," Peskov said.

The Russian presidential spokesman refused to comment on specific issues currently being discussed between Russia and European special services, as he forwarded this question to special services.

Earlier on Tuesday, Naryshkin told TASS that his meeting with the CIA chief was possible.

The Russian and US intelligence chiefs last met at the headquarters of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization in Ankara on November 14. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the United States had insisted on the confidentiality of the communication channel between Burns and Naryshkin, but that information was immediately leaked when the American delegation arrived in Ankara.
