Russia’s Sevmash Shipyard presents nuclear sub building innovative solution

The development includes a unique method for securing mechanisms to the foundation, protected by a Russian patent

MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. A representative of the Sevmash Shipyard, a subsidiary of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), has presented an innovative solution for the construction of modern nuclear submarines at an international research and practical conference in Nizhny Novgorod, the shipyard’s press service reported.

The new solution will save an estimated 81 million rubles ($1.004 mln), it said.

"Sevmash Shipyard representative Igor Kalemintsev demonstrated an innovative development for the construction of fourth-generation nuclear submarines with an economic savings of over 81 million rubles at the international workshop titled ‘Modern Technologies in Shipbuilding and Aviation Education, Science, and Production.’ The event is taking place in Nizhny Novgorod from October 28-30," the press service said.

It specified that Kalemintsev, head of a department at the Sevmash Design Bureau, presented modern technologies for installing equipment and structures using polymer materials. The development includes a unique method for securing mechanisms to the foundation, protected by a Russian patent. He demonstrated practical solutions aimed at improving the efficiency of equipment installation, introducing modern materials, and optimizing production processes in the construction of fourth-generation missile-carrying submarines.

The press service emphasized that the practical application of this design and technological solution has already been confirmed by its successful use in the construction of Yasen-M and Borei-A class nuclear submarines at the shipyard. The technology has been approved by the USC’s Malakhit and Rubin design bureaus, as well as by the Defense Ministry’s Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Technology Center.

"This development significantly reduces the labor required for installation work and ensures the reliability of the structures. The innovative solutions implemented can also be applied to the construction of other vessels in the domestic shipbuilding industry. The assembly unit, which involves securing mechanisms to the foundation using flowable plastic, has been registered as an invention by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property and has been granted a patent. Labor savings per order range from 800 to 2,200 standard hours," the company stated.

Sevmash added that, due to the reduction in the labor intensity of installation work, the total economic benefit from using these components and technology in the construction of nuclear submarines exceeds 81 million rubles.
