Russia and India constantly upgrade BrahMos cruise missiles that they produce jointly and are engaged in work on hypersonic technologies, CEO and Chief Designer of the Research and Production Association of Machine-Building (NPO Mashinostroyeniya) Alexander Leonov said at the Korolev Academic Readings on Cosmonautics.

"We constantly modernize these missiles, improving their characteristics. That is why, this is continuous work. Under the BrahMos project, work is also underway on small-size missiles and hypersonic technologies," Leonov said.

The work under the BrahMos project began in 1998 and missile serial deliveries started from 2004, he recalled.

"The Indian Armed Forces, including the Air Force, the Army and the Navy purchase a considerable amount of these missiles," the chief executive said.
