BERLIN, June 25. /TASS/. The German government is pursuing a policy that has done nothing to bring peace in Ukraine closer and continues to fund the corrupt regime led by Vladimir Zelensky, Alternative for Germany (AfD) lawmaker Stefan Keuter said during a Bundestag debate on Ukraine.
"Billions are flowing to Ukraine - for weapons, financial aid, promises. At the same time, no one knows how many billions have gone into the luxurious lifestyle, yachts, hotels and casinos of Zelensky and his associates," he said. "With taxpayers’ money, we are financing one of the most corrupt states in the world," Keuter added.
The MP also pointed out that German authorities are simultaneously discussing raising the retirement age while the country faces the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions, rising energy prices, job losses and companies relocating abroad. "We just keep paying and paying," he said. "This government has subordinated prosperity, competitiveness and security to a policy that has not brought us any closer to peace."
"Instead, we hear calls for more weapons, new red lines and fresh words of encouragement. Those who advocate total victory without presenting a realistic path to peace are not conducting foreign policy but pursuing a policy of escalation," Keuter argued.
He also recalled that the 20th sanctions package had now been adopted and stated that it was causing greater damage to the German economy than to Russia. He also reminded that AfD has consistently called for keeping channels of dialogue open with both Kiev and Moscow.
