Hungarian PM suggests Russia, Ukraine hold talks, EU should nix sanctions

Viktor Orban accused Brussels of "failing in its policy of sanctions" and triggering "sanctions-fuelled inflation and a sanctions-induced surcharge on energy resources"

BUDAPEST, October 14. /TASS/. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday called on Moscow and Kiev to hold peace talks, and urged the European Union to lift sanctions on Russia.

"As long as the conflict continues and the West responds with sanctions, neither inflation nor energy prices will decline," he said on Kossuth Radio.

The prime minister accused Brussels of "failing in its policy of sanctions" and triggering "sanctions-fuelled inflation and a sanctions-induced surcharge on energy resources."

Orban added that Hungary has been exempted from all restrictions that harm its energy industry, but being part of the pan-European market, the country still suffers from high energy prices.

"The ultimate solution to the problem of high energy prices will be the EU's rejection of its policy of sanctions," the prime minister said.
