Kremlin rips report of Egypt’s alleged rocket deliveries to Russia as 'latest canard'

It is noted that the document reported in brief on alleged talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the country’s high-ranking military officials

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. Recent Western media reports that Egypt allegedly conspired to secretly supply Russia with rockets appear to be just another falsehood, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

"It appears to be the latest canard, which is something we’ve been dealing with a lot lately. This is how we should treat such reports," Peskov told journalists.

Leading US daily The Washington Post published such allegations earlier, citing a US intelligence document, which was dated February 17 and was leaked in the Internet. According to the newspaper, the document reported in brief on alleged talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the country’s high-ranking military officials.

According to the Washington Post, the Egyptian leader instructed the top military officials to manufacture up to 40,000 rockets for subsequent delivery to Russia, while noting that the process of manufacturing and delivering the munitions must be kept secret so as to "avoid problems with the West." The document also outlines alleged plans for delivering artillery shells and gunpowder to Russia.
