MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Some Alyoshki residents have decided to stay in their homes due to various family issues, Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova said at a press conference summing up the results of the Alyoshki humanitarian mission.
"We spoke with the people who remained there. It was an emotional and difficult conversation. One of the women was standing there, crying. I said: ‘Come with us. It's not safe here. We’ll provide you with a place to stay. We’ve prepared very good temporary shelters.’ She cried and said: ‘I can’t because my mother had a stroke. She simply won’t make the trip'," Lantratova recalled.
"Another woman’s husband is in the hospital, and she can’t leave him," the ombudswoman said. "And some have elderly parents who have already grown accustomed to living here. This is their home and their life, and they’re not ready to leave, no matter what. Of course, their adult children couldn't bring themselves to leave their parents alone, so they decided to stay," Lantratova concluded.
