MOSCOW, June 24. /TASS/. Russia and Laos have discussed ways to promote cooperation in the field of biological security, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following bilateral consultations in Vientiane.
"The parties shared assessments of the biological security situation in the Asia-Pacific region and the world. They discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of biosecurity and efforts to strengthen the regime of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention," the statement reads.
"The meeting confirmed that Russia and Laos share a unified approach to biological security issues. The parties highlighted the need to continue close coordination and constructive cooperation both at the bilateral level and within multilateral platforms, particularly the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention and the United Nations," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
Russia’s delegation to the interagency consultations was led by Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, while the Laotian delegation was headed by Phetsamone Keovongvichith, deputy director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations.
