Moscow open to cooperation with US based on Russian national interests — diplomat

Moscow has "no illusions about the new administration's position toward Russia," Gennady Gatilov went on to say

GENEVA, November 14. /TASS/. Moscow is ready to cooperate with the US based on Russian national interests, but doesn’t have any illusions about Washington's policy following Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election, said Gennady Gatilov, Russia's envoy to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva.

"We are open to, and ready for cooperation, but of course we will cooperate on the basis of our national interests," he said at a news conference.

Moscow has "no illusions about the new administration's position toward Russia," the diplomat went on to say. Gatilov pointed to Trump’s first term in office as president, saying he "started imposing sanctions and a lot of anti-Russian legislation was passed." Gatilov also called to wait and see how the new US administration will act.

The US held a general election on November 5 to pick a president, some senators, all of House members and several governors. Trump won back the Oval Office.
