Senior Russian diplomat, UN official call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

They confirmed the demand for an immediate ceasefire, which would put an end to inhumane collective punishment of children and other vulnerable social groups, the Russian Foreign ministry said

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and Virginia Gamba, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict, have emphasized the importance of an immediate halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip, the Russian Foreign ministry said in a statement after their phone call.

"They exchanged views on cooperation in the context of preventing grave violations against children in the wake of armed conflicts in various regions around the world, including the Gaza Strip," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"They confirmed the demand for an immediate ceasefire, which would put an end to inhumane collective punishment of children and other vulnerable social groups," the statement said.

"They focused particular attention on the results of the ‘Arria Formula’ meeting of the UN Security Council members, which was arranged by the Russian delegation in New York on November 10 to address forced removal and illegal exploitation of Ukrainian children and minors from other countries in Europe," the ministry reported.
