Ukraine does not let Red Cross visit soldiers held prisoner — LPR's ambassador to Russia

Rodion Miroshnik stressed that ICRC staffers regularly visited Ukrainian POWs held on the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Ukraine does not allow International Committee of the Red Cross officials visit the Lugansk People’s Republic’s prisoners of war, the LPR’s ambassador to Russia, Rodion Miroshnik, said on Thursday.

He stressed that ICRC staffers regularly visited Ukrainian POWs held on the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic.

"In contrast to the Ukrainian side we allow ICRC personnel to visit us and to look into the conditions at the detention centers. In Ukraine, they are not permitted to do the same. There has been no reaction from the ICRC regarding our men," Miroshnik said on Russia’s Channel One.

Earlier, the leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, said that ICRC personnel had inspected the places where the Ukrainian military personnel who had emerged from the stronghold on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol were kept in custody, to find the conditions satisfactory. He added that he had no information as to whether the ICRC had conducted a similar inquiry into the conditions of POWs in Ukraine. He stressed it would be correct to demand proper attention to the prisoners of war held on Ukrainian territory.
