Diesel deal clearly irritates US lawmakers — Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister commented on US Senator Richard Blumenthal’s remark that Russian oil supplies were banned under US law

ATLANTA /United States/, October 31. /TASS/. The Russia-US diesel deal irritates US lawmakers, and Moscow is well aware of that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following the first day of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.

"The fact that the deal causes irritation, particularly in the Senate and the House, is no secret. That’s natural because many politicians on Capitol Hill, as well as in government agencies, don’t like what is going on between Russia and the US at the presidential level," Lavrov said, commenting on US Senator Richard Blumenthal’s remark that Russian oil supplies were banned under US law.

The top Russian diplomat noted that key issues between Russia and the US remained unresolved."Sanctions are still in place as the current administration maintains all the sanctions imposed by [former US President Joe] Biden. Moreover, it has imposed additional sanctions on [Russian oil giants] Lukoil and Rosneft. These sanctions were introduced just a month after the Alaska meeting. It also continues to supply weapons [to Ukraine] through European countries, which purchase them and hand them over to the Kiev regime," he added.
