MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Russia’s deliveries of liquified natural gas to China may become equal to pipeline supplies in the future, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft Igor Sechin said at the 4th Russian-Chinese energy business forum on Tuesday, adding that pipeline gas supplies to China would exceed 100 mln cubic meters in the near future.
"Russia’s pipeline supplies of gas to China will surpass 100 bln cubic meters per year in the foreseeable future. That said, the potential of the Russian resource base of natural gas is substantially higher than those volumes," he said. The issue is both about gas reserves in Eastern Siberia diverted from the European direction and about a vast resource base in Russia’s east, according to the CEO.
"The growth of supplies of Russian liquified natural gas to China is equally promising. Today LNG exports from Russia to China are comparatively low, but in the future the volumes of LNG deliveries may become comparable with pipeline supplies," he said.
According to Sechin’s presentation, Russian supplies of pipeline gas to China may gain 60% this year. It is expected that over 15 bln cubic meters of gas will be delivered to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline in 2022. Meanwhile, the total capacity of existing and promising gas pipelines from Russia to China amounts to around 100 bln cubic meters, which equals to 27% of China’s gas consumption last year.
Rosneft’s gas reserves in Eastern Siberia and the Far East that may be potentially delivered to China via pipelines, exceed 2 trillion cubic meters, Sechin noted.
