NAIROBI, November 1. /TASS/. Drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebel group attacked an oil pumping station and an energy infrastructure facility in the city of Hayya in the Red Sea State in eastern Sudan, the Sudan Tribune newspaper reported, citing local sources.
According to its information, fires broke out at both sites as a result of the October 31 attack. The strike on the oil pumping station caused several crude oil tanks to catch fire. An oil pipeline runs through Hayya, transporting oil from South Sudan to the Marsa Bashayer Export Terminal on the Red Sea coast.
In addition, a drone struck a transformer substation in Hayya that was in the final stages of construction. The facility was intended to improve the power supply to Port Sudan. This is the second attack on the city’s energy infrastructure in the past three days.
Earlier, a series of drone strikes caused serious damage to more than 13 power substations in seven Sudanese states, leading to widespread power outages.
The Sudanese authorities blame the SBR for the attacks and accuse neighboring Ethiopia of aiding the rebels.
The armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has raged since April 2023. According to the UN, tens of thousands of people have been killed as a result of the fighting, and more than 14 million have been forced to flee their homes. Recently, both sides have stepped up their use of drones to carry out strikes on energy infrastructure facilities and other targets.
