BUENOS AIRES, December 12. /TASS/. US President-elect Donald Trump will not manage to achieve a quick settlement of the conflict in Ukraine despite his pre-election promises to reach peace in 24 hours, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who is currently on an official visit to the Brazilian capital, said.
"He [Trump] promised to end the war in 24 hours. Of course, this was election rhetoric, but he will have to take action to resolve the conflict, and we are already seeing some ambiguous statements," Fico said in an interview with Brazil's Folha de S.Paulo newspaper.
According to him, the actual actions of the Trump administration will differ from what the politician has previously said. However, Fico emphasized that he "welcomes the constructive approach" of the next US leader.
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that, if elected, he intends to resolve the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in turn, stated that Moscow welcomes any initiatives for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, including Trump's proposal, as long as they address the root causes of the conflict.
