MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Crimean Basketball Federation has joined the Russian Basketball Federation, the RBF said on its website on Thursday.
The membership will allow the Crimean federation to get registration at the Russian Sports Ministry and financing from the federal budget.
In late February the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) urged the Russian and Ukrainian federations to achieve a compromise on the Crimean basketball issue saying no decisions to this effect had been made.
Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko told TASS in August 2014 that FIBA President Patrick Baumann had not questioned the participation of Crimean clubs in basketball competitions under the RBF patronage.
Meanwhile, Alexander Volkov, the president of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, insisted that Crimean clubs should not be admitted to Russian tournaments.
