Putin conveys condolences to deceased Supreme Court chief’s relatives — Kremlin

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed condolences to the relatives of Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev who died at the age of 80 and the entire judicial community, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.

"In view of the death of Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev, Vladimir Putin conveyed his deep condolences to his relatives and the entire judicial community," the Russian presidential spokesman said.

Lebedev died on February 23. The health authorities specified that he died after an illness.

Lebedev was appointed as the Supreme Court chairman in July 1989.

"Lebedev made an invaluable contribution to strengthening and developing the national judicial system, establishing constitutional and legislative fundamentals of an independent judiciary and forming judicial community institutions," the Supreme Court said in a statement.
