Globo, a Brazilian media holding, will suspend cooperation with partners in Russia, and that will include not selling the rights to show its TV series, due to the situation around Ukraine, the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported on Wednesday, citing sources with the South American media giant.
"At the moment, Russian television channels are showing the TV series Por Amor and The Clone on local (Russian - TASS) streaming platforms, Globo is represented by the series The Clone, Brazil Avenue, Above Justice, Iron Island and Hidden Truths," the newspaper recalls. Similarly, according to the newspaper, the rights purchase to show new Russian films, cartoons and television series will be suspended indefinitely.
Brazilian TV series gained popularity among domestic viewers in the late 1980s, when the Soviet audience was first shown the telenovela Slave Girl.
