Coronavirus cases in Russia rise by 2,558 in 24 hours

The number of cases has reached 18,328

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. The number of novel coronavirus in Russia has risen by 2,558 over the past 24 hours reaching 18,328 in 82 regions across the country. By now, 1,470 patients have recovered, 148 people have died, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Monday.

"A total of 18,328 cases (+16.2%) have been recorded in Russia’s 82 regions. Over the past 24 hours, 179 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovering, the total number of recoveries is 1,470. Eighteen coronavirus patients have died over the past 24 hours. A total of 148 people have died in Russia," the crisis center said.

Another 1,355 cases have been recorded in Moscow, the total number of infected people in the Russian capital has exceeded 11,500.

New coronavirus cases have been confirmed in 61 regions across the country, including the Moscow Region (495), St. Petersburg (121), the Tver Region (44), the Krasnodar Region (41), the Nizhny Novgorod Region (30), the Rostov Region (26), the Krasnoyarsk Region (25), Bashkortostan (23) and the Orenburg Region (20).

According to the crisis center, 179 people have been discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours, including 150 in Moscow, 6 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and 4 in St. Petersburg.

Ten people have died in Moscow over the past 24 hours, three in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, two in Chechnya, one in the Moscow Region, one in the Murmansk Region and one in North Ossetia.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
