Helium from Siberian, Far Eastern fields to cover 45% of global demand — scientists

NOVOSIBIRSK, March 25. /TASS/. Russia’s helium production may reach 75 mln cubic meters by 2030. Helium from West Siberian and Far Eastern fields will cover 45% of global demand, according to projections provided by the press service of the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Russia’s helium production potential is focused on the territory of West Siberia and Far East, where 35 helium-rich gas fields have been discovered.

"Considering all planned projects Russia’s helium production may total 75 mln cubic meters by 2030 and persist at this stage until the middle of the 21th century. Specialists at the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences suggest that helium production at West Siberian and Far Eastern fields will cover up to 45% of global demand. Asian-Pacific countries will be the main consumers," the press service said.

The level of technological availability of Russian equipment producers overall allows providing critical and key machines to projects, the press service added.
