MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. A movement advocating the decolonization of the US states of Texas and California reflects shifting trends in global geopolitics, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin stated.
"We are currently witnessing the true decolonization of the Global South, which has come to see itself as a full-fledged political actor rather than a subordinate ‘backyard,’" Naryshkin noted in an interview with Razvedchik (or Scout) magazine. "Perhaps, you noticed that the [BRICS group’s] summit in Kazan coincided with a rather lackluster British Commonwealth summit in Samoa, where former colonies demanded that Great Britain pay compensation for the damage it had done. And it’s just the beginning," he added. According to Naryshkin, the Irish, the Scots, and the Welsh also have grievances against London.
"As for the United States, a movement to decolonize Texas and California is gaining popularity," the SVR director pointed out. "Some may find such aspirations idealistic, but they do reflect a broader and growing trend," he asserted.
