Kremlin concerned about situation in Transnistria, keeping an eye on developments

"We know that our opponents, both from the Ukrainian regime and in some European countries, are capable of coming up with various provocations. We are well informed and are aware of it," Dmitry Peskov said

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russia is closely following the recent developments in Transnistria and is concerned about the current situation in Moldova’s unrecognized republic, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"Naturally, the situation in Transnistria is the object of our closest attention and a reason for our concern," Peskov said at a news briefing in response to a question about how the Kremlin views the developments in Transnistria and whether Moscow was concerned that the West was attempting to undermine the situation in the region.

Peskov stated that the situation in Transnistria is unstable and it is being "instigated from the outside."

"We know that our opponents, both from the Ukrainian regime and in some European countries, are capable of coming up with various provocations. We are well informed and are aware of it," he added.

Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that in the near future, the Kiev regime was plotting a false flag against Transnistria using units of Ukraine’s armed forces and nationalists from the Azov battalion (outlawed in Russia).

The military agency specified that a staged attack by Russian troops from Transnistria would be used as the pretext for the invasion. Later, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported a substantial accumulation of Ukrainian personnel and military equipment near the Ukrainian-Transnistrian border. Moldova’s authorities asserted that they did not see any direct security threat on the border with Ukraine.
