INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION, February 28. /TASS/. The air leak at the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) poses no threat to the crew, and the flight continues as usual, Roscosmos cosmonaut team commander, TASS special reporter Oleg Kononenko said.
"Indeed, there is an air leak from the service module’s transfer chamber. The leak poses no threat to the crew’s security. The flight continues as usual. In addition to carrying out scientific experiments, I was tasked with search and localization of the leak. The search situation is complicated by the numerous equipment installed in the chamber and the small size of the cracks," Kononenko said.
According to the cosmonaut, the operations are being carried with support from specialists back on Earth.
"I work together with ground specialists; there is a plan and a method for search, as well as all necessary equipment. It’s a calm, routine work, which requires a proper search technique and a use of rather complex equipment, as well as attention and patience," the special reporter underscored.
Previously, head of the NASA ISS program Joel Montalbano said during a briefing that there is a small air leak on the Russian ISS segment. According to the specialist, the air leak has increased in the last few days, but it does not threaten the crew’s security. Later, Roscosmos noted that the station crew regularly carries out operation on search and elimination of potential leak points, and data from the station is being relayed for analysis as usual.
