The Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet frigate is heading for the Atlantic

MOSCOW, 2 November. /TASS/. The Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet frigate Admiral Golovko, carrying Zircon hypersonic missiles, has set out on a long-distance deployment and is heading for the Atlantic, the fleet’s press service reported.

"The Northern Fleet frigate Admiral Golovko has left the roadstead of Severomorsk and set out on a long-distance deployment, heading for the Atlantic," the press service said.

According to the press service, over the next few months the frigate’s crew will carry out long-distance deployment tasks in various areas of the world’s ocean, primarily flag-showing and ensuring a naval presence in operationally important areas of the distant ocean zone.

"The crew is fully prepared to carry out the assigned mission. The ship has undergone a full course of preparation and is ready for missions in the distant ocean zone," emphasized Captain 1st Rank Andrey Slavin, commander of the Admiral Golovko frigate.

Before setting sail from the Northern Fleet’s main base in Severomorsk, a ceremonial gathering was held on board the frigate, during which Captain 1st Rank Maxim Yemelyanenko, deputy commander of the missile ship force, addressed the sailors, wishing them success in carrying out their assigned tasks.

The Admiral Golovko is one of the newest Project 22350 frigates, which was commissioned into the Navy on 25 December 2023. It is equipped with long-range precision-guided missiles, including Zircon hypersonic missiles.

Between 2024 and 2025, it took part on numerous occasions in various Russian Navy exercises involving the practical use of all types of weaponry. In 2025, the frigate embarked on its first long-distance deployment and took part in the Russian-Egyptian Friendship Bridge 2025 exercise, and, for the first time in the history of the Russian Navy, together with the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, launched hypersonic missiles against a maritime target in the Mediterranean Sea during the exercise.
