Germany finds substance resembling explosives near military airfield — newspaper

According to the media outlet, the forensic experts have not yet completed their examination of the substance

BERLIN, September 22. /TASS/. Investigators found a suspicious substance that may be explosive a few meters from where drone components were discovered near the Wunstorf military airfield near Hanover (the federal state of Lower Saxony), Suddeutsche Zeitung quoted law enforcement agencies sources as saying.

The story said that forensic experts have not yet completed their examination of the substance, but they believe it is explosive. The investigation is being carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office in Karlsruhe and the Federal Criminal Police Office. It allegedly is checking for a possible connection to the incident involving a drone that occurred in early August at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

The paper said that the topic was discussed on Tuesday at the Federal Chancellery. Military transport aircraft A400M are stationed in Wunstorf.

The drone components were found by chance about a week ago, about 2 km (1.2 miles) from the airfield. The police believe that the drone fell and crashed, and this presumably happened some time ago.
