US energy secretary gives estimate of daily oil flows through Strait of Hormuz

Chris Wright said that eight to nine million barrels a day going through the strait

NEW YORK, August 14. /TASS/. The volume of oil currently transiting the Strait of Hormuz stands at 8-9 million barrels per day, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.

"We’re saying eight to nine million barrels a day going through the strait," he told Fox News.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier, citing ship-tracking data, that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz "was slow throughout July, with an average of 26 crossings a day." Just 14 vessels crossed the waterway on Tuesday.

Wright disputed the report. "The commercial satellite players, these are great businesses, but this is a conflict zone right now, and to see exactly what's happening as we're seeing in the data, that's difficult," he said.
