NEW YORK, June 23. /TASS/. The United States has approached Middle East officials asking them to convey to Iran that Israel seeks to wrap up the conflict as soon as possible, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing sources.
The newspaper notes that although Israel continues to deliver strikes on targets in Iran, it wants to end the war. Meanwhile, Tehran is "facing a perilous choice: hit back at the US and risk widening a war with two militarily superior foes, or return to nuclear talks" and agree to make some concessions.
Israel hopes that Iran will agree on talks and stop enrichment activities. However, it is ready to deliver more strikes if Tehran continues work on its nuclear program, the newspaper says.
Overnight into June 13, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion targeting Iran’s nuclear program. Iran responded in less than 24 hours. Since then, Tel Aviv and Tehran have been exchanging strikes. Both parties reported casualties and damage, and admitted that a number of facilities had been hit.
The United States stepped into the conflict nine days later and attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran - at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan - in the early hours on June 22.
