WASHINGTON, March 12. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has declined to say whether he has plans for contact with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"I won't comment on that, but we had a great success yesterday," he said in response to the question if he planned to hold a meeting or a phone call with the Russian president following the March 11 US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia.
According to Trump, as far as a ceasefire in Ukraine is concerned, "it's up to Russia now." "We've had a good relationship with both parties," Trump pointed out, speaking about Russia and Ukraine at a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin at the White House.
When asked if he had discussed the issue with Putin, Trump said: "We haven't spoken to him yet with substance."
On March 11, the Saudi city of Jeddah hosted talks between the United States and Ukraine, which lasted for almost nine and a half hours. After the meeting, Vladimir Zelensky’s office released a joint statement saying that Kiev supports Washington’s idea for a 30-day ceasefire. The US promised to lift its pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume military aid to Kiev.
Trump said on Tuesday that his administration planned to have contact with Russia "today or tomorrow." Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova did not rule out that the two countries’ officials would communicate in the coming days.
