DOHA, February 26. /TASS/. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon during talks held in Doha, the emirate’s Foreign Ministry said.
"The two sides also discussed developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, and the State of Qatar’s efforts within the joint mediation that contributed to reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the meeting addressed the latest developments in Syria and Lebanon," the ministry said in a statement.
At a press conference on the results of his visit to Qatar, the top Russian diplomat said that Syria no longer wants to be a territory where the geopolitical issues of external players are resolved. He specified that the Qatari side had confirmed that the new Syrian leadership is interested in ensuring that the process of stabilizing the situation inside the country is carried out evenly and in a balanced manner, "so that no one tries to subjugate these processes to their geopolitical goals."
Speaking of conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, Lavrov noted that Moscow and Doha support conducting the process of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement following principles approved by the UN Security Council. He also stressed the intention to continue consultations with Qatar on the matter.
