Zaporozhye Region hopes to join Russia as part of Southern Federal District

"We definitely want to be a part of Russia," head of the regional military-civilian administration Vladimir Rogov stressed

SIMFEROPOL, June 1. /TASS/. The Zaporozhye Region hopes to become a part of Russia’s Southern Federal District, says Vladimir Rogov, head of the regional military-civilian administration.

"We definitely want to be a part of Russia. The Zaporozhye Region is an integral region, with a large population that has colossal potential - human, economic and natural potential. In fact, to make it easier for the people of this tremendous land of Russia to understand, the Zaporozhye Region is like the Krasnodar Region. I’d rather not invent the wheel here, as we can easily see the fact that the Southern Federal District does exist, and that it has a custodian, Marat Khusnullin, who personally visited us. We can join the Southern Federal District as entire regions without any problem, considering that Crimea is very close to us, and that we have good relations with Donbass," Rogov said.

He noted that regions joining Russia may be expanded in the future, but this first must be discussed with the public. This would require building a new structure, and account for any interests, aspirations and aptitudes, when developing a complex solution to unlock the potential of these territories.

"For the purpose of living as one family - in Russia - and working together for the good of everyone, this consolidated effect will only offer advantages. That I am sure of," Rogov concluded.
