NEW YORK, October 8. /TASS/. The wife of captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Cilia Flores, suffered a heart attack a few months ago while in US prison, Associated Press reported citing her lawyers.
Representatives of 69-year-old Flores said she suffered a heart attack in July. They added that her heart problems cannot be treated in prison. Flores lost 11 kilograms during her time in custody. Her lawyers said they would seek her transfer to house arrest.
On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military sites in Venezuela, captured Maduro and his wife, and took them out of the country. Maduro and Flores appeared before the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on January 5. US authorities charged them with involvement in drug trafficking, but both pleaded not guilty. Delsy Rodriguez, who served as Venezuela’s executive vice president under Maduro, is currently serving as the country’s interim president.
