Hainan creates new job opportunities for foreign professionals

One of the ways Hainan plans to attract more competent personnel is by organizing job fairs, according to Nanguo Metropolis Daily

HAIKOU /China/, February 14. /TASS/. Hainan Free Trade Port is considering new favorable opportunities to attract highly sought-after foreign specialists on a larger scale, the Nanguo Metropolis Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, Hainan plans to organize job fairs as part of its efforts to attract more skilled workers. One of them, timed to coincide with the start of work after the end of China's national Lunar New Year holidays (which lasted from January 28 to February 4), was recently held in the province's administrative center of Haikou.

The event was aimed at building a modernized system of industries, including sectors such as energy, logistics, communications, finance, construction and network technology. More than 250 companies participated in the event, ready to provide more than 10,000 jobs, including 3,000 for foreigners.

The fair attracted the attention of young people, including about 80 foreign students from more than 10 countries. The organizers provided a platform for productive dialogue between youth representatives and employers.

Zhang Wanke, secretary of the Hainan Medical University Party Committee of International Education College, estimated that with the implementation of the free trade port development program, there will be many more job opportunities for foreigners. He pointed out that many interested companies, in search of young professionals in in-demand specialties, are increasingly turning to universities to find promising graduates. At the same time, more and more graduates are showing interest in promising trade, economic and social projects in the province.

According to Zhao Wei, head of the Hainan Human Resources Development Office, the province has strengthened the openness of its talent recruitment mechanisms in recent years. Since April 2018, when Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of an experimental zone and a free trade port on the island, China's southernmost region has attracted more than 850,000 foreign specialists, she noted. The official added that the authorities plan to set up an even bigger platform to recruit highly skilled professionals.
