MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Six out of ten (63%) Russians use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in their daily lives, a survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) reveals.
"AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of our everyday lives. Its popularity is due to a wide range of applications - from smart assistants and chatbots to complex analytical systems in business, medicine and education. Three years ago, only a third of Russians could explain what artificial intelligence is, but today six out of ten (63%) are already using these technologies in their lives," the report, published on the center's website, says.
Among Gen Z and younger millennials, the percentage of those using AI reaches 86-87%. The most popular ways of interacting with AI among Russians are voice assistants and text queries using chat GPT or neural networks (31% each). One out of five (21%) people has experience using a chatbot, almost the same percentage (19%) have used an object recognition system or photo search.
More than half (54%) of respondents perceive AI positively, seeing it as a helpful tool. However, when asked where they would turn to find out information about an unfamiliar subject, AI ranks last (5%), behind libraries and books (6%). The Internet earned the top spot (50%), trumping personal connections - knowledgeable friends and acquaintances (29%).
As for the educational sphere, only 7% of respondents say that AI can be used by schoolchildren and students without any restrictions, while 69% advocate for clear guidelines on its use .
The survey was conducted on November 26 among 1,600 Russians over the age of 18.
