Japan’s latest sanctions target over 80 people, including Kadyrov’s family, Russia’s PM

Japan has so far imposed sanctions on more than 900 people and over 50 legal entities over the situation in Ukraine

TOKYO, October 7. /TASS/. The family of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, Russia’s defense chief Sergey Shoigu, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin are among more than 80 people, freshly sanctioned by Japan over the accession of four new regions to Russia.

Japan’s new blacklist was published by the Japanese Ministry of Finance on Friday. It includes 58 Russian individuals and another 23 people with links to Russia’s new regions. Nine Russian entities are also targeted. An asset freeze and other restrictions are envisaged against those.

Among other companies, the state-run corporation Rostec and the Kalashnikov concern were sanctioned.

Japan has so far imposed sanctions on more than 900 people and over 50 legal entities over the situation in Ukraine. Tokyo has frozen the assets of Otkritie Bank, Novikombank, Sovcombank, VTB, Rossiya Bank, Promsvyazbank, VEB.RF, Sberbank and Alfa-Bank as well as of about 40 Russian organizations and companies.

Earlier, the Japanese authorities approved several packages of restrictions against Russia. The list of goods and technologies prohibited for export includes some 500 items, including semiconductors, equipment for maritime and aviation security, telecommunications equipment, military products, including weapons, software, oil refining equipment and industrial electric equipment. Additionally, a ban on exports of luxury items to Russia was imposed, and Russian gold imports are also banned.
